LEADING THE WAY: First Grade's Joey Coughlan and Centenary Cup's Sam Garvin (inset) have taken out their respective competitions' top individual awards.
One is Orange CYMS Cricket Club's reigning Cricketer of the Year; the other is one of the club's brightest young prospects.
Joey Coughlan and Sam Garvin have capped great seasons by claiming the top individual awards in their respective competitions in 2023-24.
All-rounder Coughlan was named Bathurst Orange Inter-District Cricket Player of the Year for an outstanding First Grade season which yielded 776 runs at an average of 55.43 and 24 wickets at an average of 12.96, as well as nine catches.
Garvin, an opening batter and wicketkeeper, took out the Orange District Cricket Association's Centenary Cup Player of the Year prize for his haul of 196 runs and 11 dismissals - seven catches and four stumpings.
Their outstanding performances helped propel their teams into finals, with First Grade bowing out in their preliminary final, while Centenary Cup won their minor premiership before going down in their grand final.
Coughlan said he was proud of his efforts, which had stemmed from a combination of hard work and the club's support.
"I strongly believe you get out what you put into most things in life, and cricket is no exception," he said.
"CYMS has a dedicated committee and volunteers that have the players best interests at heart. Thank you to all involved at Orange CYMS Cricket Club.
"And well done to Sam on his commitment to his craft this season. His award is very well deserved."
Garvin, who was also part of the club's under-14s Green side that played semi-finals, said he really enjoyed the season, in both the juniors and seniors.
"What has really improved my game was going to seniors training and the support and coaching I have received from the senior players," he said.
"I would also like to thank CYMS's coaches and managers, as they are so important for this great club. Thank you to Orange CYMS Cricket Club and well done to you too, Joey."
Coughlan was the leading run-scorer in BOIDC in 2023-24, and was ranked third on the wicket-takers list. He scored two centuries during the season, including an incredible 250 not out against Bathurst City Colts at Loco Oval, as well a five-wicket haul in the same game.
Garvin was third on the Centenary Cup's list of run-scorers, and contributed to the most dismissals of all players in the competition.
Both players wore representative colours over the course of the season, with Coughlan representing Orange, Central West Wranglers and Western Zone in opens cricket, and Garvin playing a key role in the Orange under-14s Gold team's Western Zone premiership.
