WELCOME ADDITION: All-rounder Ben Orme has joined Orange CYMS Cricket Club for the 2023-24 season.
Speaking to the Central Western Daily ahead of the start of the Bathurst Orange Inter-District Cricket 2023-24 season, First Grade captain Tom Belmonte has highlighted new recruit Ben Orme as a player to watch.
The former Bathurst City and representative all-rounder switched allegiances and towns for the upcoming campaign and in the process, reunited with former Redbacks skipper and CYMS opening batter Joey Coughlan.
"He's just pure talent. He can win a game all by himself with both bat and ball. We're very lucky to have him," Belmonte said.
The captain also pointed to opening bowler Lachlan Wykes as a player he believes will have a big impact in the coming six months of cricket.
"We had a trial against Hawkesbury a few weeks ago and he absolutely killed it opening the bowling," Belmonte said.
First Grade vice-captain Rory Daburger said Orme was one of many new arrivals to the club who are expected to do well in the senior grades.
“While we have lost some players it is fantastic to welcome Ben Orme, Matt Burgess, Max Richards, Harry Priest, Hadden Bennett, Ben Chiarella, Beau Cox and others into our ranks for the season,” Daburger said.
"These are First and Second Grade-quality players and they will be crucial to winning the premierships we missed out on last season."
CYMS' First Grade side takes on Orange City in a 40-over one-day match at Wade Park in the first round of the BOIDC competition, starting at 1pm on on Saturday 7 October.
